The European Chronicles 2023.11 - Gorgeous Gorges

The Gorges du Verdon and de Daluis, plus a small taste of the Alps

These are France's "Grand Canyons"; du Verdon has the glacial water lakes, de Daluis has beautiful red rock walls.  And some very dramatic tunnels.

Including several tunnels where the road splits;  one way thru one tunnel, the other direction wraps around and goes thru a different tunnel, reuniting "around the bend."

Lots of balcony roads, with rock overhangs.  They drip.  ðŸ˜‚

And, you have to ride thru both of them to get to the Alps.  Torture.  ðŸ˜Ž

Relive 'To the Alps!'

The lower Alps, but this, this right here, is why the Alps Rock.  Stunning.

Before I spend all my time there, a bit more around the Gorges.

Relive 'More Gorge!'

Some interesting conversation at the hotel...two couples from the UK on a driving holiday; they're both right hand drive.  If you believe the Ferrari guy, he could have been a Formula One star and his wife "outbraked the instructor into Donnington Park's turn one on her first track day on her 848 Ducati, with the rear wheel in the air."  Okay...I didn't meet her, perhaps he's really married to Jorge Lorenzo...  ðŸ˜‚. Trash talk is universal.

The R10 is very pretty, always liked that car.

This Peugeot has a very unusual "double bubble" rear window...bet that piece of glass is expensive.

Hotel's in a cute little town. La Palud-sur-Verdon

Excellent ice cream.

Time to add some altitude...😎

Ciao!

A little tease from a pass photographer on the Col de la Bonette
