FüssenÖsterreich Loops and Rain

My weather forecasting skills have abandoned me, sadly.  Rain on and off almost every day.  Did get in some loops into Austria, and explored on foot a bit.  Füssen is a little touristy, but has a very nice pedestrian-only section, all walkable from my hotel.

Let's stroll around a bit.  To the city center, thru the rocks...

Gotta keep your feet clean...

The Kloster St. Mang

The monk, St. Mang, is thought to have died here in 750.  Built in 1697, the town purchased it in 1909 and set up its town hall here.

Well marked walking paths, everywhere.

The Lech River runs thru
Füssen.

Street color

Walk this way...

Look carefully...there are 2 closely spaced rear wheels, this is some kind of electric conversion.  Can't imagine it handles particularly well...

Spritzin' in the rain...

Excellent restaurant

This place has a Bat Cave...

Time for a Loop or Two or Three...

There's zero restriction at the Austrian border, barely even a sign acknowledging you've entered...just like in the good old days...

Heading up the Hahntennjoch Pass.

In addition to a few of the short "cut right thru the mountain" tunnels above, there are also some longer tunnels.  See the "switchback" sign?  Yes, switchback turns inside the tunnel.  At least you're warned.

Why the circular holes?  I wonder...structural?

Mad King Ludwig built himself a castle...

Check out the hang glider!

Started to absolutely pour as I got closer...

And speaking of pouring...this is quite good... 😎

With my new "waiter," a blade, corkscrew and bottle opener...can't believe I didn't send one when I shipped Mia!

A bit drier the next day, so I stitch together sections of the German Alpine Road with some "smaller" roads that looked interesting... I had already done the western section on my way to Füssen.

Walchensee

Bet that's chilly...they were all in wet suits.

Finally, a day that dawns sunny!

Back up Hahntennjoch, but after a week of rain and on a Saturday it was an absolute ZOO!

Lot's to unpack with this photo:  of course, you have your carved wood welcome sign.  The "70" with the line thru it is the "end restriction" symbol, the 70 kph limit is now lifted and the 100 kph "backroad standard" limit is now in place.  the red circle with the motorcycle is something new in Austria:  a sound restriction on motorcycles.  They were randomly checking going up the pass as well.

Time for lunch at what is clearly "turn one."

The after lunch view...

Lotus 7

Over Oberjoch pass on the way...

Back to the hotel, and in the time it takes me to unload and change, it is now pouring with thunder and lightning.  Once again, perfect timing!

Cheers!
