A California Weekend

A California Weekend

Stopped into a church
I passed along the way
Well, I got down on my knees
And I pretend to pray

Nahhhh, I'd rather ride.  The Southern California roads were calling…my wife and I, along with four friends took the weekend to ride Anza-Borrego Park, thru Julian, up Palomar and over Montezuma Grade to Borrego Springs.

We started out late Friday afternoon and slabbed it to beautiful downtown Yuma, the RV capitol of the planet.  Dinner at a surprisingly good Italian restaurant called "Daboyz,"  good food, quick service, fun atmosphere, and an easy walk from the hotel.

Saturday was up and out early to try and beat the heat.  Anza-Borrego State Park is the second largest state park in the lower 48 (behind Adirondack Park, another fun place to ride) and is approximately 800,000 acres.  All desert, it is an off-roader's paradise, but also has several paved fun roads, and that's our focus today.  We cut thru the park, and climb to Julian.

Mother's is on Palomar Mountain, a California riding mecca.  Twisty roads, good pavement, little traffic, fantastic views.  Yes!

This is not the road you're looking for…  Could have been interesting except for the "Locked Gate" sign.
