The European Chronicles 2026.7 - Andermatt & The Train

La Tremola From Above

Had to put this shot first.  On a day ride, came north from Italia on the new Gotthard Pass and was able to look down on Tremola.  Awesome, isn't it?  Remember, all cobblestone.  ðŸ˜Ž

The one on Furka is a bit busier.

The Cars Of Andermatt

On any given day, the cars in and around Andermatt are pretty special.

Ferrari Dino

Aston Martin

KTM X-bow

Citroen SM

Morgan

Volvo

Moose

Porsche 918 Spyder

Lamborghini

McLaren

Alfa Romeo

Bentley

Ferrari

Lotus (Loti?)

And so many Porsches as to make them almost pedestrian.

Sometimes, things don't go as planned.  This is what happens when the combustion escapes and becomes "external."  ðŸ˜‚

Yikes!  No one was hurt, and the fire was quickly doused.

Public transportation can be dangerous...so let's throw caution to the wind and take...

The Train!  The Train!

For 20 francs you can purchase an Andermatt Guest Card that allows 7 days of unlimited use of the Gotthardbahn train to Disentis, and the cable car up the mountain.  This is a portion of the route the much more expensive Glacier Express train takes between St. Moritz and Zermatt.

Even though it is a "second class" ticket, the only word to accurately describe the train is "gleaming."  Pristine might also work...spotless, shiny and quiet, with gigantic picture windows and free internet.

Andermatt from above.

The little hut is the train station.

I didn't realize it when I decided to take the train, but it takes you to the Catrina Resort and the cable car.  I stayed there several years ago, taking shelter from a huge thunderstorm.  Lots of construction then, and the cable car wasn't running.  Seems built out now; a real coincidence.

If you want the train to stop at the station, remember to press the button...

Short walk, turn left for the cable car...

Of course...

Thought this was interesting...some type of storage building on the walk back to the train station.  Completely covered in solar panels.

Tomorrow...Italia!

Ciao!
