The European Chronicles 2025.18 - Incomparable Beauty

 That's Pitztal

You be the judge:

Some perspective:  There are three parallel valleys, each with their own glacier.  West to East are Kaunertal, Pitztal and Otztal.

The character of each could not be more different.  Kaunertal and Pitztal are both "dead ends;" Otztal continues over Timmelsjoch and Passo Rombo into Italy.  You may recall that's where the Top Mountain Motorcycle Museum is located.  Otztal is, by far, the busiest and most developed.  Kaunertal is mostly untouched and is a toll road to the glacier and ski area at the top.  The dark line at the bottom of the map is the Italian border.

Pitztal, like the nursery rhyme, is "just right."  That's especially true where we are, which is at the very end of the valley...you have to want to be there and it is very serene, but still has a little town.  The Vier Jahreszeiten is a fabulous hotel.

Everything is at your fingertips...you simply walk out the door to access trails too numerous to count, the Glacier Express to the very top, or the Rifleseebahn to the lake.

Although we've had some rain these past few days, it cleared enough each day to get some hiking and riding in.  While Krisanne hiked, collecting the pictures above, I rode up to the Kaunertal Glacier.  With our Pitztal Summer Card that comes with the hotel, there's no toll.

And, because the road looks like this:

Heading out from the Vier Jahreszeiten

Relive 'Kaunertal Glacier'

Back over the Pillerhohe Pass, this time dry, and through the toll booth.

Last year's and this year's sticker.  ðŸ˜Ž

Just over 9000 feet

A fun ride, zero traffic, great scenery.

We had more rain overnight, but Thursday dawned bright and sunny...with a dusting of snow on the mountain tops.

A quick breakfast and up the gondola to the Riflesee.

That, that right there, that's a hutte that serves...

So.  Many.  Choices.

Time to head back down...

Ciao!
