The European Chronicles 2025.3 - Andermatt & La Tremola

Exploring Andermatt & Riding the Cobblestones of La Tremola

I'll start off with this...La Tremola...Krisanne's got skills...

La Tremola is Switzerland's longest road monument, one of the highest paved roads in Europe and is listed in the inventory of historic Swiss roads.  It was built between 1827 and 1832, and paved with hundreds of thousands of granite cobblestones between 1937 and 1941.

One...at...a...time...on...an...arc

And I swear it is waaaay smoother than the roads in Tucson.  Seriously.

Hairpin by hairpin, you wind your way through history.

Above you is the new Gottard pass...

Eyes wide shut...  ðŸ˜‚

Relive 'La Tremola'

The walls are stone as well.

Repair work...in cobblestone.  And this radar controlled traffic light is SOP in Europe when there's construction or some other obstacle.

An absolutely great, must-do, ride.  ðŸ˜Ž

Andermatt is one of those places I "just like."  The vibe feels good, although I will say, I like the old town better than the new Radisson Blu "complex."  It is only a short walk to the village, but the old town has much more character.  The Radisson Blu is a beautiful hotel, but because of all the construction, it feels a little "not ready for prime time."  I'd stay again, but only if my two village choices...the Alpenhotel Schlussel or the Piz Badus...were unavailable.

The front of the Radisson.

See the crane?  They are everywhere.

The garage is also under construction and the tickets to let you in and out simply don't work.  On a moto, at least you can ride around the gate...allegedly.  ðŸ˜‚

Behind the hotel are shops, restaurants and residences.

Walk left around the corner, down some steps and you'll go through the train station.  Behind the wooden wall will be another hotel.

"Velcro Girl" found a beer bag at the Coop, Switzerland's ubiquitous grocery store.

A Bugatti replica...electric...that ferries guests at the Chedi around.

The Chedi is an oh-so-exclusive resort.  Today, they had some kind of Bentley gathering going on.

The Cantons of Switzerland, each with their own flag.

This gives you an idea of what they have planned around the Radisson.

The Reuss River runs behind the hotel complex, and right through the center of town.

Lots of fun rocks.

Mia sporting her new Swiss highway vignette.  The weather for our upcoming transit day is looking pretty iffy...thunderstorms building.  We may head out early and do some highway to run in front of the storms.  To travel Swiss highways you need this sticker...40 Swiss francs for the year...the price you pay for glass smooth roads...  ðŸ˜‚

Krisanne was able to find it at the Andermatt post office...made my life easier!

Dinner Saturday night with a yoga friend of Krisanne's, Stephanie, who drove in from Lausanne.

Great food, company and conversation!

Ciao!
