Press Kit

There are those that require excellence in everything and understand that bespoke quality is the ultimate value.  Our old-world craftsmen employ skills passed down generation-to-generation, combined with state of the art technology and manufacturing to produce the precise, understated elegance so rare in today's world.  It is this ability to combine fine art with functionality that truly stands the test of time.  When you desire to turn aspirations into reality, we are ready to assist.

And if you order now, we'll deliver, right to your door, not one, not two, but three, that's right, three boxes that will change your life forever!  This is a limited time offer, and for the first 100 callers we'll even throw in a numbered special gift.  So call 1-800-SUCKERS right now, that number again, 1-800-SUCKERS, operators are standing by.  Not available in stores.

Oh, wait, this is a travel blog, and I'm now post-vax.  Let's go to Press Kit, Prescott if you must, for a quick overnight, staying at one of my favorite retro hotels:  The Motor Lodge.

I've planned an Eastern route up and a Western route back:

This bypasses the Phoenix nightmare, puts me in the mountains later in the day so the temps are higher, and traverses some interesting, albeit known, terrain.

Stopped at Biosphere 2 for a photo opportunity that was not to be.  Got there a little after 8 am and learned that they don't open until 9.  I don't remember this gate from the times I've been there previously; perhaps a pandemic addition?

Closest I could get

At least the road in and out is fun

I'm sure you know the (failed) history of Biosphere 2 but here's a fun fact:  one of the original "green" contractors on Biosphere 2 was also the builder of our house here in Tucson.

Heading past Roosevelt Lake

An interesting sign on the rest stop wall:

A few wildflowers starting to sprout

Some snow on the side of the road heading toward Payson, but generally mild temps, 50-65 all day.

Whiskey Row in Prescott

Prescott, the former capital of the Arizona Territory, has a town square which includes the historic courthouse

And, obviously, some current crazies.  Just wasn't quite quick enough to capture the full Flat Earth regalia on the truck.

A better view of the courthouse:

It wouldn't be Arizona without a cowboy and his horse

Gotta love The Motor Lodge, a garage for Ginger and they greet you with a beer!

Dinner at Limoncello, a good Italian restaurant within walking distance.  Didn't quite live up to the online hype, but good nonetheless.  They did, however, have cannoli, which is a rare find here in Arizona.

Heading out the next morning

The back way to Bagdad

A beautiful ride.

South thru Vulture Mine Road and into Gila Bend over the Gillespie Bridge

This trip was a little test to see how travel would feel, post-vax but still in the throws of the pandemic.  Overall, it was "ok,"  no real opportunity to chat with local folks, eating outside and not really interacting. That takes a big part of the fun away, sadly.  But hopefully that will get better day by day...

Stay safe, and good luck to all still on the vaccine hunt!
