In The Rearview Mirror

If you can't look forward, look up and to the right...

Sadly, we've canceled our 2020 Europe trip; the situation is too unsettled right now.  The world is on lockdown, with certain European countries slowly starting to reopen portions of their economy as I type.  But we are a long way from a complete reopening and if there is a resurgence, I expect those countries will now be quick to react with quarantines, closures, restrictions and bans, and for it to come in the July - September timeframe.

We were, however, able to postpone our Casa Olea reservation to the same time in 2021.  We'll do in 2021 what we had planned for 2020.  Domestically, I cancelled my trips for March - May, still have some slim hope for Utah in June and, maybe, just maybe, something domestic in August.  But like Europe, any resurgence will likely come at that time.  So who knows.

2005 - a European Newbie

An Edelweiss Alps tour, such a fantastic introduction!  Moving the pieces into place.

King Ludwig's castle

Christian, the tour leader, to my left.  He was Austrian trials champion, and has raced the Isle of Man. Over dinner, I asked him how he memorized a 30 mile course.  His answer: "You remember the places that will kill you."  Best rider I've ever ridden with, full stop.  And an incredibly nice guy.

And the roads...

A Pagani at the top of one of the passes.  They were running up and down with a camera car filming a commercial.  Who knew 13 years later we'd visit the factory!

It was a fun time. 😎

2006 and beyond - Head West Young Man

Moving to Tucson, what a leap!  I had interviewed for the AUSA job completely by video.  The then US Attorney offered me the job about noon my time on a Friday, with a deadline of Monday to decide.  I had never been to Tucson.  WTF...jump!

Packed the TT for the drive west.

Everything else, including Sophia, goes in the truck.

The drive introduced me to "wide open spaces," not something you see on the East Coast.

There are some distinct advantages...

Building the Armory Park del Sol house

It quickly became apparent that those same wide open spaces made Sophia the wrong tool for the job. Enter the first R1200GS, about three months after moving to Tucson.  Christian convinced me to try one on the Edelweiss trip, and I was sold.

Time to go places.

Monument Valley

Colorado

The house got finished...

The TT got traded...

Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons

Cody, Wyoming

So close, had to try it!!

Sophia was still in the stable, but being used less and less and less, until she finally got a new owner.

Car show at the Pima Air and Space Museum

But, you know, two wheels rule...

The Stig goes to the World Superbike Races in Utah a couple of times...

And meets Scott Russell

And Chris Peris, now one of the principals of the Yamaha Champions riding school.

Then came Krisanne... 💕
